The two favourites to win the Brazil Open 2003 both made it through to the quarterfinals today. Whilst Schuettler saw off the challenge from American Paul Goldstein on Centre Court, Frenchman Carraz lost out to Schalken on Court One.
Number one Seed, Schuettler had an straightforward victory, beating Goldstein 2-0. He now faces the winner of the match between Delgado and Saretta.
Meanwhile, Schalken, seeded number two, didn¿t have things all his own way, with Carraz holding out to 7/5 in the first set, then 6/4 in the second. The Dutchman will almost certainly be ¿flying¿ off to watch the match between American Vincent Spadea and Chilean Hermes Gamonal. The winner of that match faces Schalken in the quarterfinals.
