It took Brazilian Gustavo Kuerten just 54 minutes to polish off the Austrian Werner Eschauer 2 - 0 (6/2, 6/1), and book his place in the quarterfinals.

In the next round, Guga will play fellow countryman Ricardo Mello, who turned round his match against Juan Ignacio Chela from Argentina 2-1 (2/6, 6/2 and 6/4).

"I have always preferred to play the foreign players, and even more so when I'm playing here in Brazil. But I'll have to put all that to one side and just play with the same kind of spirit as today (Thursday)", said the Three-times French Open Champion.

Guga added that he was delighted there will definitely be a Brazilian in the semi-finals. "It'll be a great day for Brazilian tennis", said Guga, who, at the end of his match, invited the Center Court audience to come back and watch his play off against Ricardo Mello on Friday.

The Match
Kuerten got off to a flying start, breaking serve in both the first and third games of the opening set. It was almost a formality as he closed down the set 6/2 after just 29 minutes.

The second set wasn't much different. After breaking Eschauer's serve in the third game, the forth saw the Austrian start to lose faith, his head well down and "kicking thin air" in frustration. Another service break followed and then another. Guga finished off the set at 6/1, in just 24 minutes.
