German, Rainer Schuettler achieved a convincing 2-0 (6/1, 6/3) win against Ramon Delgado from Paraguay this Friday in the quarterfinals of the Brazil Open 2003. Delgado had earned his meeting with the number one seed after eliminating Brazilian Flávio Saretta.
In the first set, Schuettler broke his opponent ´s serve in the second, forth and sixth games, only once losing his own in the third, to close the set at 6/1. Before the sixth game, Delgado had to seek courtside treatment from a physiotherapist. In the second set, Schuettler broke serve in the fifth and ninth game.
Gustavo Kuerten's coach, Larri Passos, was at courtside watching Shutter¿s moves very closely. Guga also secured a place in the semifinals after seeing off his Brazilian colleague Ricardo Mello (6/2, 6/2).
